Melt butter, cream cheese and milk together on the stove top. Add parmesan cheese, chicken and garlic. If you will be eating right away: spread sauce over pizza crust, top with mozzarella cheese and bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes.<br /><br />If you will be using my <a href="http://everydayexpressionsfromkanda.blogspot.com/p/freezer-cooking.html">freezer cooking method</a> take this recipe and multiply it depending on how much food you want. I multiply it by 5 and it usually feeds my family of 3 about 12 times.<br /><br />Freezing: I like to freeze the alfredo sauce in freezer baggies. I buy panini crusts from Walmart's bakery and freeze a bunch in a freezer baggie (separated by wax paper so they don't stick together). <a href="http://www.jiffymix.com/product.php/2/Pizza_Crust_Mix">Jiffy pizza crusts</a> are convenient and cheep too. <br /><br />Cooking: you can thaw the sauce at room temperature for 2 hours or in warm water for 30 minutes. Then heat it up on the stove top. Place sauce on top of frozen pizza crust (no need to thaw crust first if it is thin). Top with mozzarella cheese. Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes. <br /><br />*Note: I don't freeze the mozzarella cheese, but I almost always have string cheese on hand which I grate up and use. I am sure you could freeze mozzarella cheese in it's own bag if you wanted. <br /><p><br /><img style="border:0;" align="center" src="http://i914.photobucket.com/albums/ac349/kymr1234/kimberlysignature.jpg" /><br /></p><br /><br />Photo from: http://foodislovee.wordpress.com/2009/06/10/chicken-alfredo-pizza/Kimberly and Ashley @ Everyday Expressionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05975212959496702297noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2509984231389942629.post-75568680427772350852012-01-09T22:29:00.000-08:002012-01-09T22:43:19.942-08:00Sweet and Sour Meatballs-Freezer cooking recipeSweet and Sour Meatballs<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOr7eM_xP6ZO9sjtHyioU-ZBw-6Dc_rKTj8OcGsXV7RyymhZvbhxHvQ-agF-j_phwUV8j1IeJA1elB-Cl1FnFYlKtdnbuYgkDTPTWeQufBdY4nDFRANJg0FfzfbDkEFKN5LggLaZMppfKs/s1600/meatballs.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 399px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOr7eM_xP6ZO9sjtHyioU-ZBw-6Dc_rKTj8OcGsXV7RyymhZvbhxHvQ-agF-j_phwUV8j1IeJA1elB-Cl1FnFYlKtdnbuYgkDTPTWeQufBdY4nDFRANJg0FfzfbDkEFKN5LggLaZMppfKs/s400/meatballs.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5695889845255483234" /></a><br /><br /><br />Meatballs:<br />1 ½ lb. ground beef<br />2/3 c. cracker crumbs<br />1/3 c. minced onion<br />½ tsp. salt<br />1/4 c. milk<br />1 egg<br /><br />Sauce:<br />2 TBS cornstarch<br />1 c. brown sugar<br />1/3 c. vinegar<br />1 TBS soy sauce<br />Juice from one can of pineapple<br />1 c. sliced green bell peppers<br />pineapple from can<br /><br />Combine together first 7 ingredients. I don't know about you, but it seems like my mom already has everything she needs (that fits in my price range anyways). I think I've given pictures for the last bajillion Mother's days and was in the mood for something a little more fun. This is what I came up with for this year.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFd6iDFbYvT6Ri8DfrIfRyzb3fj2wgO1-vCPIb2RplgYszPvbh6CYXP7kySny6FOTD_s3wkHeUPVlHNkBiXS-zQmD1LNEJWXJzRZ9ckzOEUnZNC9vNS3QU1XoiDnORBfHfVk9NoBAUB8Yf/s1600/stacked3.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 217px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFd6iDFbYvT6Ri8DfrIfRyzb3fj2wgO1-vCPIb2RplgYszPvbh6CYXP7kySny6FOTD_s3wkHeUPVlHNkBiXS-zQmD1LNEJWXJzRZ9ckzOEUnZNC9vNS3QU1XoiDnORBfHfVk9NoBAUB8Yf/s400/stacked3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603096057158907138" /></a><br /><br />I used <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op15rZhsK8g">this</a> awesome tutorial from YouTube for the gift boxes. I used 12 x 12 paper for the pink box, 10 x 10 paper for the green box, 8 x 8 paper for the purple box, and 6 x 6 paper for the blue box. The boxes ended up with the following measurements. Pink-5 inches square, green-4 inches square, purple-3 inches square, and blue-2 inches square. <br /><br />I thought Brenna's artwork would add the perfect personalized touch. I had her color these cute pictures with coordinating colors and then attached them to the bottom of the inside of the boxes. <br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisCHxmejSIfNiCmU27aXhzUat0Qg2lmMMH8nEF_uAMEMpBqm0_EVck9VpMRR6iMU4Bt_BmR-MSRuyrpuPvB03MwCcn2XGpxMyt-nyD-NnkC9fXqcrGVrH0rMBr-zWSNfzCHa5oLyozUV2D/s1600/inside.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisCHxmejSIfNiCmU27aXhzUat0Qg2lmMMH8nEF_uAMEMpBqm0_EVck9VpMRR6iMU4Bt_BmR-MSRuyrpuPvB03MwCcn2XGpxMyt-nyD-NnkC9fXqcrGVrH0rMBr-zWSNfzCHa5oLyozUV2D/s400/inside.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603097225430429618" /></a><br /><br />I had a bunch of ideas about what to put inside the boxes. Here are the 4 I narrowed it down to. <br /><br />In the biggest box: pictures...I know, I know, I do that every year. <br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq9N6zMucYg9qeJ7AldjITJSw08TDOErTFBIb9lK9-1CTBcgME4NxIcyuw8WxxNLIne_I4hC_UMjjMTvYyrL_SPr_0ag2pvCElUOur4urno5VFYRj5pJll-jKaJhIg3PgihhifwZjIuCl0/s1600/bigbox.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq9N6zMucYg9qeJ7AldjITJSw08TDOErTFBIb9lK9-1CTBcgME4NxIcyuw8WxxNLIne_I4hC_UMjjMTvYyrL_SPr_0ag2pvCElUOur4urno5VFYRj5pJll-jKaJhIg3PgihhifwZjIuCl0/s400/bigbox.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603098593997510146" /></a><br /><br />Next, homemade caramels. My gift is going to take a little trip through the postal system before my mom gets it...so I thought caramels would make the trip much better than most sweets.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX5BxvGHa8yaimprjMobUlo1G9woWVOxKOLiePM5Hn8aA5oJrI6Gat6rSzzJrQsOifp7Ckcf8mP1n0y7FuWcZkcba1LFY2BjFkbMBsKG-VVJne6NABdSxojcKsQPwPAA20dJDunjr87LUG/s1600/greenbox.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX5BxvGHa8yaimprjMobUlo1G9woWVOxKOLiePM5Hn8aA5oJrI6Gat6rSzzJrQsOifp7Ckcf8mP1n0y7FuWcZkcba1LFY2BjFkbMBsKG-VVJne6NABdSxojcKsQPwPAA20dJDunjr87LUG/s400/greenbox.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603099080384398930" /></a><br /><br />Then, white chocolate covered pretzels. If you are looking for a recipe for the perfect meal for your Christmas Dinner... Look no further! My husband and I had been at a friends for a Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner and the turkey was to die for... so I asked our friend what he did and he told us that he had simply <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">Brined</span></b> it... </div><div style="text-align: center;">Now, with all the experience that I had in my short culinary program experience (didn't get to finish :( but plan to!) and my <i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">LOVE</span></i> for cooking, I <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">had </span></b>heard of it, but never tried it. I don't know why I hadn't cause it's the best thing ever!</div><p style="text-align: center;">Anyway, the recipe that I found was similar to the one our friend made for us. I found it on The Food Network website. It's from <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">"Good Eats"</span></b> <i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">Alton Brown</span></i>. The reviews for this recipe had me <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">begging</span></b> to try it! <i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">Perfect 5 stars! (</span></i>And might I add I don't think I have ever made anything of Alton Brown's that wasn't fabulous! And let me tell you... He knows his stuff)</p><p style="text-align: center;">So, here it is... (you can also find the link<a href="http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/good-eats-roast-turkey-recipe/index.html"> here</a>) <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">Hope</span> you try this! It is <i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">DEFINITELY WORTH</span></i> the extra effort! And <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">yes</span></b>, my turkey looked just as beautiful as the Food Network picture <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">(below) </span>when it came out of the oven! <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"> </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">(</span><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">FYI </span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">Allspice Berries are just whole allspice!)</span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><div style="text-align: center;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">Good Eats Roast Turkey</span></b></div><img style="display:block; I turned the shirt inside out. Then I lined up the neck of the pattern dress with the neck of the shirt and traced the bodice with a marker. I did this for the front of the dress on the front of the shirt and for the back of the dress on the back of the shirt. If you are new to making your own pattern there is a wonderful tutorial <a href="http://www.dana-made-it.com/2008/07/tutorial-make-your-own-pattern.html">here</a>.</p><p style="text-align: center;">Step 3: Cut along the marker lines. (This is a picture of the back piece). </p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNF-MUfBI9KCRZ1c3M4487slZVTHH0mGksLrOU9_S6bfTITgofAJPehui3hA8Q3W6r_LMaZU_eFHZbd7FZVmPBX6AOAB7l4I6clh3-Y8wQUKQS3K1pO-Lbg1bYWBLlP3a8DIiPxh56lfbK/s400/DSCN0087.JPG" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Step 4: Next, cut the sleeves down to kid size and sew them closed. (I did this by holding the original sleeve over Brenna's shoulder to mark it before cutting). Also sew the sides of the dress together.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlGMu_kdXAroKBZVl2Kd_mRWNlRd5uP46wFSfzxyLdPVPWqkO66xl3jRydSjv4rW0lw5VW2RD7vi6J8XNe4C92HEt1AKcBsf1Nkz7yTXSBlvXUBGAb2ByGj3lVXyAHnZ321XFzJZDwlleQ/s400/DSCN0088.JPG" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Step 5: Sew along the top of only 1 side. (I added snaps later so Brenna can actually get her head through this dress, I have made that mistake a few too many times).</p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPOQwaVC7lpbl1gMxR74KmppiRooVeHQamV7MGpAK7UJPRkIAmd_4iUsCItYwjhc8cESX-8tOl3x1LvrGx0UF5zO9t_nEbH6ewZSxQmm0XEGQBMas484lSmSesPkGJSs4LJNh9pcwm9caA/s400/DSCN0090.JPG" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Step 6: Pin the un-sewn shoulder together and flip the dress inside out.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-xnqQXTc-LWg6NN4Szvbl22_7PlsUw12DH-i-OBC5vc8U5-o22V_KJVfwiraI_Fwbj8nvtdc1nWZKYLrwIjI1yKKm-bu6ZSiEoG313A_Tay1VXfSsUaQ-WR4P_rYLULo6IT50HPF_fFrQ/s400/DSCN0091.JPG" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Step 7: Pin the sleeve in place to sew on. I do this by turning the dress inside out and leaving the sleeve right side out. Then I line up the seam of the sleeve with the seam where the armpit goes of the dress and pin them together. Then I slide the sleeve inside the dress and pin all the way around. If you are new to sewing sleeves on there is a helpful tutorial <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uBMD-OjdzU">here</a>.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghYldVlWdHMHl0BOhok0ab91EeAnaFo1X8giIeQzA4cHEgekKpAzXZiWMPnuEhtKd15b9UQ-N73tkEKIo6TUS0YEMMJVZUiqYhYKDYe2Xy9IoCPr_UNxkKMQll3BEEf96GDlhnn1UUctox/s400/DSCN0093.JPG" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Step 8: Once everything is pinned pull the sleeve back out of the dress. It will now be inside out as well. (I always turn the dress right side out to check it before sewing the sleeve on. There is nothing worse than having an inside out sleeve sewn on).</p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRBzMPmtRWk8VF2CfRbt0yIBiqDpWUfq-ek-xwTAEGjuCyWA96h0QtP6LKRbeQ3iXiPsDCgodc26JLZKZH9_EdTAiCb_TqPHuMDLZ7kKhENxRVcgd2dmO4d6HFinkA_T77r7BBv8xDyzGf/s400/DSCN0094.JPG" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Step 9: Sew the sleeves on and turn the dress right side out.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiu4imp-6Cryd21K0A9z-JqSMZ0aZSxxW5v8B9O8VXVS-3NOYuJCZ13si8RPfb4nOUuHcpaxwWgL1lnXFDdQMLDe-GiiRfMcrXUp8DCOd7ub0Z1M81hILaTZ_mNsMwoateHAMOC3DhMj_y/s400/DSCN0095.JPG" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">#10: Take the material that was at the bottom of the shirt originally and sew it into a tube the same size as the bottom of the dress.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNaIrEThZ_ijBgXdjAfPgKKh0Ks-EnMHysUtI5ZUXDxto7wNxjjEJgYISgipcovitIY9ysc0UUnqBmgkAesmwqFKGjVXtPvFOowohOX50_Rbv8nhOQAKMiktnh7IrDlF_-Ec-6AKkc_7mw/s400/DSCN0101.JPG" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">#11: Pin the tube and the dress together for sewing. I highly recommend using a planning sheet, it <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"><b>really helps</b></span> you stay organized.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img style="text-align: left;display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px; " src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsW3dim4Pd9lq_P3051bxg2I3pb8iqdJAmv9GpMiampUNB5LA1dFI37ltHH-h0HRv971o6LzD60XeK8zYonpwfaeRbBs05F4f_Wf0TJ7ZTAF61c90ZYxeEmVG2h5mHj0DICQ4p_EuAGQfw/s400/IMG_4080.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544466735857660050" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I have finally <b><i>reposted</i></b> a new <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">Menu Planning Sheet</span></b> for all of you... So, go check it out! You can find it <a href="http://www.scribd.com/doc/41738940/Menu-Planning-Cute">here</a>. I promise it looks way better than the last one. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-small;">I couldn't figure out how to get Scribd to read my Mac document, </span><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-small;">love</span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-small;"> my Mac but sometimes I just understand PC better, I'm sure with time I will get better at it :) Menu Planning can be pretty rough sometimes so </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">re</span>ad up on my <a href="http://everydayexpressionsfromkanda.blogspot.com/p/meal-planning.html">Menu Planning</a> tab for tips and details on how to plan out a menu and how to make shopping and Meal Planning easier :)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">So on to the exciting part... Remember <a href="http://everydayexpressionsfromkanda.blogspot.com/2010/09/more-ideas-using-distressing-technique.html">this</a> awesome shelf that my brother made? Well, he also made me this really beautiful calendar board to go with a calendar I had made for a gift, but I had made my calendar WAY too big, so it wasn't going to work. BUT... I had been looking for a <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">menu board</span></b> for quite some time and once I saw this<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;"> I knew </span></b>it was perfect for my menu board! Even though I couldn't use it for it's actual purpose I was able to come up with a new way to use it. With just a few alterations I could finally have the menu board that I had <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"><i>always </i></span>wanted! And, I think it turned out <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"><i>SUPER CUTE!</i></span> What do you think? </div><div style="text-align: center;">I absolutely <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">LoVe </span></b>it!</div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIEcQJqmVPrjZJBbyRnbD3hTwruBETE8vP9I3AmU91K4kFzY05jYS9DdXSRsJjHA-vRVvh5S0-ODYlVcF71OLYlsQsbPHaTM7UUZN19ABpwgzki3yHDa7b-iNDGmr9dJUtx7GB3wTcjShY/s400/IMG_4083.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544450488456629778" /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: center;">Here's a few close-up shots of the distressing...</div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrm_jkvIOuJUrBIPSkD0yFNBqwJoJ9ok3K1zZV6fI_rJqYn1ZjUITiwrMdlVOUDF7b4qG0cR64tdcBi7dtEyhK8ZvmG9cLSMF0KFAoGuMTZnbUItnjTQ-GTJE2JxKLqWwgGH8tmS-KhEKG/s400/IMG_4086.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544450494037706978" /><br /><div><div style="text-align: center;">Isn't the crown molding he used beautiful?!?</div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA7wJslnjq16ixizlsf9c7Nr_-9Ym6sy137w66IRaV6TfpE0fykMQTdhs61WOtTBqIefpPR2lDWZFW8O8EMLYO-vYjCHO3fkcVVT90AfpedbpRKfzrzX7B8j-mfxLnS8EKJCSBOMV1zvWV/s400/IMG_4085.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544450491422762642" /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">So here is what I did:</div><div style="text-align: center;">I simply used a <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">chalkboard paint</span></b> like this one to paint the center... A can like this runs about $5. So, it is pretty reasonable, and I even had some <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">left over</span></b> YAY!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 220px; height: 220px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZKUZ16E52qYa0Di_i5HucQ2-qAsDNDAjB_7Mc-za6loLG4xvYMSp2Xq27OQDG7aJCG9tO5Fpvyefuw-oU94XUHOEQP3VtoZu2N2391wu5DUuWuItApEjY2-uPNmlfLfD2nTF-Ud3cgFYZ/s400/chalkboard+paint.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544458332895310242" /><div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Then I <b>taped-off</b> the framing where I <i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"><b>didn't </b></span></i>want chalk board paint and painted according to the directions on the can. Definitely needs multiple coats, and let dry between coats!!!! Once dry, I taped off the chalkboard portion of the board. And began painting the accent color on the framing. The calendar board was originally black and since I knew that I would be painting the inside of the board black with the chalkboard paint I decided to paint the framing <i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">white</span></i> so that it would <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">stand-out</span></b> against the black. Then I sanded and scraped off the white paint, so that it would have a distressed look. I recommend using a polyurethane or a clear coat over the top. Once everything was dry I used this really cool <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">chalk marker</span></b>, made by Uchida to draw up designs for the grapes and the days of the week. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-small;">(Y</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-small;">ou can get these at pretty much any craft store in pretty much any color you want)</span> I got the idea for the grapes off of the marker itself! Pretty cool huh?!?</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxJ3kNAhW3ri_JQcPs8VU_6w_TbUxhr2tBq1xE4cKJ48WxlQF7nhJg7peWFgAKpavjUIDwdgXsMb7VvSTdeOiAFfVgplhpsdR8jPqVD7YuGhJyq6w1OoN6WbY6UpuL4Q_OCUNWDlrd7dUF/s1600/bistro-white.1279661300.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxJ3kNAhW3ri_JQcPs8VU_6w_TbUxhr2tBq1xE4cKJ48WxlQF7nhJg7peWFgAKpavjUIDwdgXsMb7VvSTdeOiAFfVgplhpsdR8jPqVD7YuGhJyq6w1OoN6WbY6UpuL4Q_OCUNWDlrd7dUF/s400/bistro-white.1279661300.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544450499571429202" /></a><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">This is how it turned out and I absolutely <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">LOVE</span></b> it! </div><div style="text-align: center;">One of the funnest projects I have ever done!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZd8pXpbgOJREMz86NN1F6YZobVprjC7u-xE5p8S_cIPvCWxAoT76MzhrKrQffr15aWZxx1o3wtqmi81DLg20HUeFqMHTORAqbIQQj7xLi1V86jTbKUdIS1D7AQpV0NVDocJFgLVamOR7G/s1600/IMG_4081.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZd8pXpbgOJREMz86NN1F6YZobVprjC7u-xE5p8S_cIPvCWxAoT76MzhrKrQffr15aWZxx1o3wtqmi81DLg20HUeFqMHTORAqbIQQj7xLi1V86jTbKUdIS1D7AQpV0NVDocJFgLVamOR7G/s400/IMG_4081.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544450479729677218" /></a><p style="text-align: center;"><img style="border:0;" align="center" src="http://i914.photobucket.com/albums/ac349/kymr1234/ashleysignature.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Linking up to:</p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://sewmuchado.blogspot.com/">http://sewmuchado.blogspot.com/</a></p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.thethriftyhome.com/">http://www.thethriftyhome.com/</a></p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.bluecricketdesign.net/">http://www.bluecricketdesign.net/</a></p></div></div></div>Kimberly and Ashley @ Everyday Expressionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05975212959496702297noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2509984231389942629.post-5108340670815040392010-11-23T21:01:00.000-08:002010-11-30T22:44:18.938-08:00A no sew fabric wreath<div style="text-align: center;">Lately I have wanted a little break from my sewing machine, but I had all this darling Christmas fabric. Well, I felt our front door needed a little TLC since the moment I saw our house. It had really good bones, which was GREAT, but the color was all wrong... our house is grey and so was the door! <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">(just a little darker) </span>It just didn't POP the way I wanted it to. Since I didn't want to replace the door <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">(can anyone say EXPENSIVE!)</span> I decided that I would <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">paint</span></b> it. I have always wanted a red door, but because of the color of our house I knew that it just wouldn't look right. So I decided to paint it <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">black</span></b> instead, it would still make a statement without overwhelming to the rest of the house. Here's a picture of the before...</div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">(I forgot to take a picture of the door before I started taping... So excuse the tape, sorry!)</span></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC2t2lcE39RCeWiTrIbbyR9oBOB9sRLRj9_TNTvjpekpO-IZX9JmYY6gIAAri_SvbGZeQLommO1ArIsC9wiV3GcsQIcvgXn5rldxgwiX5kUu5sYHAm4pgutO0oLh61_J2j0nTkjb2jkLCb/s400/IMG_3453.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5539988201277852642" /></div><div><div style="text-align: center; "><br /></div><div style="text-align: center; ">The project was originally one of the first things on my to-do list, but because of other things that needed to be done, it became one of the last things on the list. So, I was <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">excited </span></b>that its time had FINALLY come! YAY! <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;"><b>New paint</b></span> here I come :) </div><div style="text-align: center; "><br /></div><div style="text-align: center; ">This is the paint that I used. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">(can't beat 1 Quart @ Lowes for about $10 bucks, </span><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">and </span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">you can even paint more than one door with this using multiple coats).</span> It is <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"><i>specifically</i></span> designed for doors. It is awesome! Really durable and looks great when applied. <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">Beware</span></b>, this paint is oil based... Oil based paints are really difficult to clean up after. So, I suggest using GLOVES, paint brush, and a roller you can just <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;"><b>throw away</b></span> after application, this saves you the headache of cleaning up forever! I promise... Trust me! :)</div><div style="text-align: center; "><br /></div><div style="text-align: center; "><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 276px; height: 276px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN2cR1WahV01lPHEwC1g_Msugerbg2aOFscAnQyRfmaxBI-NlpexZUR_8pU-SbG2p_bel2tUl5_CZMtR_HofIJvNAEB_gLvm1BiJUb3SCGLeBKRTzpdS7fb9HIXxCQI7f4TuDuQCD-Cq_F/s400/door+paint.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5539988365128296818" /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Because of the quality of paint I used <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">and the fact that my door was already grey</span> I chose not to use a primer. On to the prep work... Clean your door with a mild cleaner and dry thoroughly make sure to tape off all glass panels and edges of door. And along all sides and edges. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 254px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9QTBxaX-mupadyYRUERVCmZZwkV4lefmtKdKyNb-oLQMwIMU8-mLGbrwgHg2trkeu2jBrlzHHDd0zlPXroS8Xe4WQdtDfuzE0PF74tdNbqywmKwp7ConuKpLJCV2PgiCyb_fAUDyyIR6o/s400/IMG_3452.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5540673853800123586" /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"> When I was ready to paint I did remove the door from the hinges and painted it on a <b>horizontal</b> surface. This made it easier to paint. (While my door was off its hinges, I used a plastic drop cloth to cover the door, this helps to keep out bugs and dust.) Following the directions on the can, paint your door and wait for paint to dry! I recommend having all your prep work done the day before and then painting first thing in the morning. Then waiting to reattach the door until evening, giving the door plenty of time to dry :)</div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">So after a<i> </i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"><i>fresh</i></span><i> </i>coat of <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">paint</span></b>... I think it looks great and </div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">I LOVE IT!!!!</span></b></div><div style="text-align: center;">What do you think? Cut the corner off slightly, <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">and I mean slightly</span></b>, you<b> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">don't</span></b> want a huge hole, it WILL make a huge mess! Then going from the center of your bowl make a bull's eye, with a continuous line going towards the outside of the bowl. Then using a toothpick, swirl through the sour cream. Garnish with some celery leaves and voile you have a <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;">super cute </span>design that only took <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">seconds! </span></b></p><p style="text-align: center;">And yes, celery leaves sounds strange but it is just like using parsley as a garnish, and it really does taste good. *Remember when making any dish you want your garnish to <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">complement</span></b> your dish. In other words when the consumer is eating it, the garnish should tell them what <b><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">flavors</span></i></b> are also in the dish and what to expect. I am definitely going to be making one of these for myself! I always wanted a <i><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">cute diaper bag</span></b></i> that had <i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">lots</span></i> of pockets! Using a purse pattern for inspiration, after <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">much</span></b> tweeking :) I came up with a pattern of my own and this super cute diaper bag was the result...</div><div><br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1hRWNK6u01Ix0moUpQtphc7U0naEKnKhhBB7wuxKInydWP9F8KAgkeGjv76ObPA9hbDXuG24VMr8J5KlpvR30JgGSHDa7IpgU3Ei5RigvnR-kKOy6jd-zprnDTQ61kWM8-vpE5mRlLToH/s400/IMG_3859.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5532748173141883106" /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I have seen so many<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"> flowers</span></b> on bags lately and think they are so cute! So I made one to go on the bag. I used ribbon and cut 3 in strips. Then used my heat tool and a metal measuring spoon to trim off the square edge to make rounded petals <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">(this also heat seals the edges to prevent fraying).</span> Then glued them all a rounded piece of ribbon for the base. Made and attached a center and then attached the completed flower to a corsage pin. Here's a picture of the bag without the flower, still cute but I think that the flower just <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">sets it off!</span></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHwN29bV7Rpl-lyPkymuSpo-SYvlSl49-saN15sIqof17qBdgQ6gHnfuTAPPYrlKZre7P7bVy7gShKbNiMmeB3geP2Su6zGsX6mrfDnl6svmvplFbv8X8SjTnURaE65DY4jOLcoyJwaTXQ/s400/IMG_3843.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5532748168752071826" /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">It is the <b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:x-large;">perfect size</span></b> for a diaper bag, not too big and not too small. You can <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"><i>even</i></span> use it as a purse later when you don't need it as a diaper bag anymore!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrgL1kVmLnwNSc9g_443WQr6CvFzvLvLbiRvXIA7zFIZZKsJzQLFEOFNvPJ2Wt2dNNX84-2FZ5YiYPFgvivdHqZ0MSfzqQ_1tBl_v7eJAyc1zxzEcw6xFjKH1SqSebz9Hbv_yTHpyzsX_r/s400/IMG_3856.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5532746753542996210" /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">A peak at the inside...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTix4w6JVooXrIiGtDkvqwukbK1KlQTDaGxD142ps50a7eeYSqg9MphsybmYXoV8gsYyAwzWx2Cx7vzJKA4f_lJLZbIo-P-Se-QPy8_CpBfpHwKuuNImQky3vL6P9JkUp0WxoHMx9c5axT/s400/IMG_3858.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5532746736361803922" /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I added a magnetic closure... </div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;">(watch for these to go on sale, cause this little guy cost me $5!)</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:small;"><br /></span></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhICAeWR94YEzc2sFz6D8o47BdylpltdZBjHScFNnxtcgo99UOb4XBXgpu2H3w3IPT2MWhDuFPtEZPf45e6Da_aMvqihtvCf1-u7tvoKGv_tsOWmIfsT9ERONJoWkgtSc3BHOCY7kg36q0B/s400/IMG_3865.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5532748188145969250" /><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;">One of the things that most patterns lack is pockets and dividers. (for me it was 16 inches). Then I cut that length out of thin elastic.</p><p>Step 2: I folded the t-shirt in half and ironed it so that there was a seam running vertically down the front.</p><p>Step 3: I pinned the elastic along the seam on the inside of the shirt. I pinned the ends first with the top end of the elastic being about 3cm from the neck of the shirt and the bottom end of the elastic being about 3cm from the bottom of the shirt. Then I laid the t-shirt out flat. So when my dad called me and said "we just re-did our hard wood floors and had some scraps left, you want them?" My answer was..."fetch yes!"</p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Would you even believe me if I told you <span style="font-size:180%;">this project only cost me $4</span>. I am having a hard time believing it myself. The wood was given to me, the birds are made of some cereal boxes and covered with fabric that was left over from the rest of Brenna's room re-do.
